I’ve spent many hours reading dozens and dozens of reviews and ratings so that you don’t have to.

2. Stability – A good court shoe will provide you with stability that will support the side-to-side motion that is experienced throughout a pickleball game. Court shoes are different than running shoes which typically offer flexibility. A court shoe is a bit stiffer because it’s built to provide more support.
3. Durable toe front – A good court shoe will have extra protection around the front of the shoe to protect the shoe and foot from toe / foot-dragging that happens often when moving side and side and serving the ball.
4. Horizontal – type pattern grip – A good court shoe will have shoes with grip lines that run in a horizontal direction across the bottom of the shoe which provides great grip when moving around the court in various directions. This is done to eliminate or minimize slipping.

Pickleball Shoes To Consider And To Avoid

When looking to buy shoes for pickleball, stay away from running shoes.

Running shoes are typically built to be flexible and light but they have much less support which makes them less than ideal for playing pickleball or any other court sport such as tennis, racquetball, squash, or badminton.

If you take hold of a running shoe, you can usually bend and twist the shoe which is okay for running because you’re generally moving forward.

However, wearing a running shoe while playing pickleball will put you at a high risk of spraining your ankle or worse.

The best type of shoe to wear when playing pickleball is either a court shoe or a tennis shoe. Sometimes there are shoes branded as volleyball shoes and they’ll work as well.

The common theme is that these shoes are stiffer and will provide good support for lateral movement although not so stiff that you can’t move in them.

In fact, there are plenty of comfortable court and tennis shoes to choose from.

A court shoe will:

• have a rubber sole
• have side to side stability
• bend at the toe box, not in the middle
• be designed for indoor pickleball court use
