Exactly how to make up this easy Instant Pot teriyaki chicken dinner:

You are going to start making this by getting out your Instant Pot and placing the chicken breasts into the bottom of the inner pot.

Instant Pot Teriyaki Chicken Bowls Recipe (4)

Then, add in the chopped carrots and rice on top of the chicken breasts. You will want to steam your broccoli separately, because it disintegrates and breaks up easily, so you won’t be able to even see the broccoli if you pressure cook it for that long.

Instant Pot Teriyaki Chicken Bowls Recipe (5)

Next, pour the chicken broth over top of the veggies and chicken breasts. Be sure that all the rice is covered with the broth as this will allow the rice to cook properly.

Then, place the lid on top and turn so it locks. Also, make sure that the knob is turned to the “SEALING” position.

Now, press the “MEAT” or “STEW” button and set the timer for 20 minutes.

After the timer goes off you will need to do a quick release. You can do this by turning the valve on top of the lid to the “VENTING” position.

Instant Pot Teriyaki Chicken Bowls Recipe (6)

Once all of the pressure has escaped, take the lid off and remove the chicken breast from the pot and shred the chicken with either two forks or to speed things up you can always use a hand or stand mixer!

Then, just add the shredded chicken back to the pot and mix it all together. Add your other vegetables if desired as well.

Now, serve it hot with the green onions and sesame seeds and pour in your desired about of teriyaki sauce and you have your meal ready to go!

If you are using white rice (all I could get at the store) how would you adjust the cooking time or settings?

  2. Amber says:

Need to do anything different if using frozen chicken breasts?

  3. Cyd says:

You should be fine with frozen chicken breasts.

  4. Cyd says:

White rice works great too. Just keep the cook time the same.

  5. Ashlyn @ F5 Method says:

This looks delicious! Love making Asian bowls for a quick weeknight meal and this instant pot variation looks great.

  6. Tim says:

If I want to skip the broccoli, but add frozen pepper strips to it, should I add them with the carrots, or should I wait until later so they don't turn to mush? Thanks much!

  7. Cyd says:

If you add them in with the carrots they will be quite soft, but will still taste great. Or you could cook them separately and then add them in right before adding in the sauce. Either way should be fine.

  8. Karen Rhoden says:

I can't find instapot cheatsheet on your website?

  9. Alissa says:

Dumb question but rice, are you using minute rice or regular uncooked?

  10. Marie says:

Not dumb...i am a first timer and needing to know as well for tonight's meal!!!I was just going to ask this...

  12. Cyd says:

    Regular rice.

  13. Shayla Webb says:

Does it change your cooking time?

  14. Cyd says:

If your chicken is frozen add about 5-7 minutes to your cooking time.

  15. melissa says:

mine came out with too much liquid left in the pot..... what am i doing wrong?

  16. Tina Butler says:

Your recipe says one thing and the video instructs it differently. I made this and it did not turn out. I did the meat setting for 20 minutes used white rice as suggested in the comments and followed the ingredients and directions. The carrots and broccoli were mushy and the broccoli was overcooked bad. The chicken was fine but all the rest was a sticky overcooked mess. The recipe states to steam the broccoli separately, but your video shows you adding the carrots and broccoli all at the same time to the instant pot which is what I did, I followed the video as I was making it. You need to specify that the video does instruct as the recipe states. Especially for people like me that are new to the Instant Pot and follow along with the video.

  17. Cyd says:

Kristen has done it both ways and had no problems. The broccoli needs to be cut into bigger chunks if you do cook it in the Instant Pot. But we like to cook it separately on the side. We often do our carrots that way too. It's really a personal preference, and depending on how much time you have.

  18. pikachu says:

The food looks so delicious and so wonderful, I really want to enjoy such delicious food. Thank you for sharing the recipe. mapquest driving directions

  19. Brooke says:

Why are you using jarred sauce and not your own?

  20. Tina Reed says:

I made this exactly as written. The veggies were still hard and 1 cup of cheese would've been enough.

  21. Jenny says:

I hate auto correct. I wanted to know if this recipe can be, frozen then placed in the instapot when I get home? I was thinking I could add everything to the bag except the rice, just add that to the pot when ready to cook.

  22. Bonnie says:

My instant pot won't pressurize with this recipe, can you help me troubleshoot! I'm using 4 frozen chicken breasts and no carrots but everything else is the same. I have it set to sealing and manual for 25 minutes. Nothing is clogged and everything is clean. Do I need a new instant pot?

  23. Cyd says:

Hopefully this site will help you find an answer on why your instant pot didn't pressurize. https://www.paintthekitchenred.com/16-reasons-why-instant-pot-not-sealing/#:~:text=The%20pressure%20release%20handle%20needs,Instant%20Pot%20won't%20pressurize.

  24. Cyd says:

Yes, you could prepare this and then place in a freezer bag and freeze. Let it thaw slightly and stick in your instant pot when ready.

  25. Jennifer says:

I rub a little olive or coconut oil on the parts of the chicken that stick out of the broth, or I get the “burn notice” and the pot won’t pressurize. I don’t know why it works, but it does the trick!

  26. Heather says:

I ended up with a very soupy rice/chicken/carrots. At least 1 cup of liquid was left after I pressure cooked for 20 minutes. Did I miss something?

  27. Fanci7 says:

Where is the Nutrition Data ?

  28. Maybel Markers says:

Came out great! Thank you for posting!

  29. Michelle Rebbe says:

Is this made with frozen or fresh chicken breasts? Love your recipes 💕

  30. Andrea says:

I don't have an instant but I do have a pressure cooker. Does it matter that I don't have poultry or meat settings? Would I cook the same amount of time?

  31. Momma Cyd says:

    We used frozen chicken breasts.

  32. Kelly says:

Do you add any teriyaki sauce to the pot while cooking?

  33. Momma Cyd says:

Scroll down to the recipe and in the instructions look at #8. That is when you add the teriyaki sauce. Some people may not like as much as others. For myself, I love Teriyaki sauce and like to go heavy on my portion.
