A new awesome ‘killer doll’ movie just premiered in theaters – and yes, it’s both chilling and amusing! M3GAN, the AI doll, came into the life of a young orphaned girl to be her friend but took their friendship too far, killing everyone and destroying everything believed to be in the path of their friendship.
I don’t want to spoil the fun for those who haven’t seen the movie yet, so I’ll refrain from sharing plot details. All I’m going to say is that it has its moments – don’t go in expecting the best movie you’ve ever seen, but expect to be thoroughly entertained – and creeped out. So, where can you watch M3GAN if you haven’t already? Here’s everything you need to know.
When & where was M3GAN released?
M3GAN was supposed to be released exclusively on Peaco*ck, the streaming platform owned by NBCUniversal. However, the initial test screenings were overwhelmingly positive, so Universal Pictures and the producers decided to premiere M3GAN in theaters first.
The initial plan was to have the movie released in theaters on January 13, 2023. However, due to the competitive nature of that particular date – with several other high-profile films dropping that week – M3GAN was pulled a week earlier and released on January 6, 2023. In most countries, at least, as some countries still have the January 13 slate for M3GAN.
The world premiere of the movie, however, was held in December 2022 in Los Angeles, and right off the bat, the movie got some good reviews. So, if your local theater is already showing M3GAN, make sure to go and check it out!
Can you watch M3GAN online?
Many of us kind of got lazy about going to the cinema, seeing just how much content there is online via one of many giant streaming platforms available a few clicks away. Also, some people don’t have the opportunity to go to a theater for one reason or another, so the question is – can you watch M3GAN online?
Well, unfortunately, you can’t. At least not yet. The movie had just premiered in cinemas and will likely have a prolonged theatrical release, considering the popularity of the film and the overall good reviews. As long as there’s interest, the movie will remain exclusively on the big screen.
That being said, when the theatrical release is over, M3GAN will certainly be available to watch online, and we already know where.
Will M3GAN be on Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, Disney+, or Amazon?
As you know, there are tons of streaming giants that have taken over the industry by storm over the past decade. We can comfortably say that Netflix was the frontrunner, but the competition tightened so much with HBO Max, Disney+, and other big platforms.
The question is, will M3GAN be available on Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, Disney+, or Amazon Prime?
Unfortunately, M3GAN won’t be available on any of those platforms anytime soon. Currently, M3GAN is exclusively in theaters, and if you can’t/don’t want to go to the cinema, you’ll just have to wait for M3GAN to become available to buy/rent online on some of the regular buy/rent platforms.
Those platforms include Vudu, AppleTV, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Google Play, and others. When exactly M3GAN will become available to buy/rent is unknown. However, we know that it will likely be available online on another big streaming service – Peaco*ck.
Where can you watch M3GAN?
Currently, M3GAN is only available in theaters. However, it was originally slated to premiere exclusively on Peaco*ck – a big streaming platform owned by NBCUniversal, which Universal Pictures is a part of.
Seeing that M3GAN is a Universal Pictures movie, we can expect it to arrive on the platform very quickly after its theatrical release is finished. How long the movie will remain in cinemas, however, is unknown.
As with any other movie, it will likely depend on demand and the popularity of the film itself. If there’s demand for the movie, it will remain in theaters for longer.
When will M3GAN be available on Peaco*ck?
Finally, this is probably why you’re here – to find out when and where you’ll be able to watch M3GAN online. We know where – it will be available on Peaco*ck. However, we still don’t have the ‘when.’
Currently, there’s still no release date for M3GAN’s release on Peaco*ck, but we can figure out some rough estimates based on earlier Universal Pictures movies and their release dates in theaters and on the platform.
An unwritten rule of theater-to-platform releases is that around 45 days between the releases need to pass. That goes not just for Peaco*ck, but other platforms, to allow the movie to get as many viewers as possible in theaters before transitioning to online streaming.
That’s why Universal Pictures’ Ticket to Paradise got on Peaco*ck a little bit after 45 days have passed since its theatrical release. It came to cinemas on October 21 and was released on Peaco*ck on December 9. If M3GAN follows the same pattern, we can expect it on Peaco*ck somewhere around mid-to-late February 2023.
That being said, there’s a reason why I called it an ‘unwritten rule’ – some movies don’t follow the same pattern. For instance, it took Nope – another Universal Pictures horror flick – more than a hundred days to arrive on Peaco*ck on November 18, after it was released in theaters on July 22.
Therefore, we can’t know for sure when M3GAN will actually arrive on Peaco*ck, as it will likely depend on how popular the movie is and how well it does in box office numbers.
